Goodbye for now
Today is my last day on Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter until the new year. An occasional and prolonged detox from social media is necessary for my sanity and imagination; when I’m on the internet too much my brain suffers, and so does my writing. I need these precious hours for reading and daydreaming, so that when I go to the page to compose sentences my mind is flexible and daring. After Labor Day I will have 15 hours of childcare a week, and I want to spend the long weekend readying the space inside of me that imagines and considers and prods, that makes scenes happen before they’re actually written.
I will miss you all dearly—your spunk and humor and support and rants and pictures of animals and cupcakes—and I hope you will welcome me back come January. If all goes well, I’ll be nearly done with a draft of my new book.
